An October 2026 conversation in the Arbit group began with a familiar question: does grinding beans fresh actually improve home espresso? Several members reported richer flavour, but one added an important qualification from their moka-pot experience: professionally ground coffee can outperform beans freshly crushed in a poor grinder. Preferences also varied by roast. Fresh grinding had fans, but nobody convinced everyone to adopt another morning chore.
For equipment, KINGrinder featured in one home setup, InstaCuppa received a modest recommendation, and a longtime Baratza Encore user reported being happy with the electric grinder. Gaggia as an espresso machine was also mentioned, along with the Kingrinder.
Manual grinding had its own advantage: making early-morning coffee without waking the household. It also prompted predictable complaints about the wrist workout.
The roaster shortlist was more enthusiastic: Five Farms, particularly Tangerine, Malabar Monsoon and Eterna; Pahadee Coffee; Savorworks, especially Heisenberg and its Riverdale roasts; and Naivo. Black Baza received a later recommendation for both its coffee and wildlife-themed story.
